Free Printable Love Bug Valentines for Kids
These printable valentine cards are perfect for gifting a plastic bug toy (which kids love)! The printable jar says “Happy Valentine’s Day, love bug!”
I’m not a fan of bugs, personally. My son loves them, though. Especially plastic bug toys that he tries to “scare” us with. Out of all the valentines on this site, these are the ones he chose for his class this year. He was super excited to hand them out!
I designed printable jars that say “Happy Valentine’s Day, love bug!” with a spot to write who it’s from. Just attach a plastic bug and you’re good to go!
These are a fun non-candy valentine for kids and perfect for preschool or elementary classes. Get the free printable valentines below!

What you need to make these bug valentines

- white cardstock (you could also used kraft paper or colored cardstock)
- a printer
- the free printable valentine cards (download at the end of this post)
- scissors
- small hole punch with a long reach: this hole punch would work, or a tool like this
- baker’s twine, thin ribbon, or string
- plastic bug toys: This is the set I bought and we were very happy with the quality (and that it came with exactly five of each bug). If you don’t need quite so many, you could also look at your local Dollar Tree or Walmart (I couldn’t find bugs at mine this time).
How to make these printable bug valentines
Download the printable valentine cards below. Print on white cardstock at 100% scale and select borderless printing (to make sure none of the design gets cut off). These print four to one page, so go ahead and print as many copies as you need.
Cut around each jar with scissors leaving a small border. Don’t worry, these don’t have to be perfect–kids will only care about the bug toys anyway!
I found the best way to attach the bugs is to tie them on with some baker’s twine. You’ll need to punch two small holes on either side of the bug (you’ll have to measure each one individually to know the best place to put the holes).
Since the holes need to be in the middle of the card, you’ll need a hole punch with a longer reach or a tool like this one. (My holes are 1/8″ for reference, but thicker string may require a larger hole.) Then thread the string through the holes and around the bug and tie a bow.

If you don’t want to invest in a hole punch, you could also pierce holes with a needle threaded with embroidery thread. You’re welcome to also try tape (I initially tried washi tape but it wasn’t secure enough and I was worried about bugs falling off and getting lost).
Don’t forget to have your child write their name (or stamp it or use a label maker). And you’re ready to pass out your bug valentines!
